Transportation Glossary: Receivable down payment

A “Receivable down payment” refers to a payment made by a shipper or customer in advance of the delivery of goods or services. The amount of the down payment may vary depending on the nature of the shipment or services, and the terms of the agreement between the shipper or customer and the carrier or service provider. The down payment is usually deducted from the final payment owed to the carrier or service provider upon completion of the shipment.
